Pen Plotter
Hello, for my CRT 320 Robotics and CNC Machining course, I built a pen plotter. This is a simple machine that uses a combination of belts and motors to draw on a whiteboard table. This project uses an Arduino Uno and a software called Universal G-Code Sender. Essentially, by using g-code for a plasma cutter and changing this up a bit, UGS can interpret this and send this to the Arduino which will command the pen plotter to draw whatever I have designed.
This is an example of one of the motors that I used. To understand how these worked, I went through the process of making it move at certain speeds and directions that would cause sounds to be heard. I used these vibrations to play music using open source g-code files.
Coding G-Code by hand is quite time consuming but not necessarily difficult. This is an example of a pencil that I drew by coding line by line.
Using an image from the noun project, I was able to create a fusion file and post process it for a plasma cutter. Doing this allowed to get a g-code file that only need a few changes. Which, allowed me to create something way more intricate than anything I could make by coding everything by hand. This design specifically allowed me to win a competition between our class for the most satisfying drawing.
